Toward a Resilient Economy Potluck Gathering

March 20, 2018 by Sari Leave a Comment

The second in our monthly potluck series, Think Global, Act Local, Be Happy, was a fascinating look at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how they align with a world we’d all like to see – where every single person is warm, fed, loved and valued for their unique gifts. As Rev. Dr. Joni Carley, vice chair of one UN Committee and participant of two others, pointed out, achieving these goals on a global or a local level requires breaking open the cultural box we’re in – the unexamined assumptions that we are embedded in like water to the fish – and reimagine the world that we want with fresh thinking. Using happiness and well being instead of just GDP as our benchmarks can help steer our thinking in the right direction.

So, we’re on to our 3rd monthly Potluck Gathering! And it’s one that we’re really excited about. Toward a Resilient Economy, on Monday, April 16, 6-9pm, will look at what makes a healthy economy and how it can help all its participants thrive.

We’ll be inviting local entrepreneurs and business owners to explore with us economic issues such as right livelihood, resource stewardship, the importance of keeping money in the local community, and how an economy can meet the needs of people, neighborhoods, and planet. How can we design a local economy that revitalizes the community and empowers all of its members?

Join us in our new venue on Lemon St between State and Baker St in Media, PA 19063 (look for the TTM signs), a community space where neighbors of all affiliations can come together and engage in open, honest, positive communication about things that matter. All are welcome – bring your voice and your ideas. Let’s talk!

We also encourage you to help us make these potlucks waste-free. Be part of our new tradition of BYOE events – please bring your own plates, cups, utensils, napkin for the meal, as well as a dish to share and your favorite beverage. Beer and wine are acceptable. The event is free, but we appreciate donations to help us cover the costs.

Remember to keep your 3rd Mondays open for these monthly potlucks. We look forward to seeing you! For more information, contact us at info@transitiontownmedia.org, check out the event on our calendar, or see our Facebook event page.
