Foraging

Foraging

Mission Statement

Our foraging group heads into local forests periodically to search for plants, mushrooms, berries and more that can be added to our meals.

What is Foraging?

Come learn about the edible plants and fungi that surround us! Some of our members have been foraging for years and know “all the good spots” in the area.

When timing is ripe for foraging and someone is heading out to forage, we send out a note to our mailing list and invite others to join in.

As we forage for healthy and tasty items in our wooded areas, we are learning about nature and human’s place as part of nature.

We learn about new tastes and textures from local plants offering up their fruits. We also enjoy our walks in the woods with an element of adventure, never knowing what we’ll find!

To join our mailing list, send us an email!

Impact Highlights

We have gone on several foraging outings over the past two years, finding mushrooms, ramps, berries, and other delectables.

Our group sponsored a plant walk in Glen Providence Park with local herbalist, Tyler Kruszewski, who taught us about sustainable foraging, and how to be a good partner to the land, rather than just taking from it. Be sure to read our blog post about that event!

Walking in Nature

On June 25, 2022 we had a plant walk led by Tyler Kruszewski, local herbalist, at Glen Providence Park in Media. Here are notes on some of the guidance Tyler shared after the walk. Please enjoy our pictures from the walk, which had a wide range of local nature enthusiasts. NOTE: The plant insights offered below are for educational purposes →
