Here’s yet another reason why mitigating climate crisis is so very important. It’s affecting our health in many ways, the newest of which is wildfires. Did you know we are being affected by California’s wildfires, even though we live in the East? The latest report from Yale Climate Connection states, the total number of hospital visits caused by smoke are higher in the eastern U.S. than in the West.

Why is that? Because smoke and its harmful pollutants don’t stay in one place. Our air can be polluted without us even realizing it. That’s why it’s important to check air pollution on a daily basis.
It’s so important to understand how our health is being affected by climate crisis. That’s why I have written about climate and health concerns in the past. Here’s a list of my blogs:
- Is Your Child’s Health at Risk?
- Health and Wellness in The Age of Climate Crisis
- Ground Level Ozone: The Silent Health Threat
- Why Climate Change Is Causing a Public Health Emergency
- Self-Care In the Age of Eco-Anxiety

Since those blogs were published, the problem has only increased. The Lancet recently reported climate crisis health risks are rising dangerously all over the world. That’s one reason why I’m urging you to continue your climate activism.

What you can do
- Make a deeper commitment to your community.
- Consider joining Third Act or another climate organization.
- Check air quality every day on sites like PurpleAir or Accuweather.
- Take precautions if air quality is poor.
- Call your elected officials and demand action.
- Learn how to protect your health. Read my blogs listed above.
- Join other activists to help stop climate from unraveling.
But there is a problem. I have noticed our climate emergency has taken a back seat to another emergency—the instability and uncertainty of the drastic changes being unleashed by our government. However, we can’t lose sight of the urgency of dealing with the climate emergency. All you climate activists, keep going while the rest of us deal with the national emergency.
