Dr Doug Tallamy has asked us to distribute his Homegrown National Park brochure to help spread awareness about the important role we each play in creating biodiversity. “Homegrown National Park is a grassroots call-to-action to regenerate biodiversity and ecosystem function by planting native plants and creating new ecological networks.”
Creating biodiversity is of critical importance. Why? Because climate crisis can be mitigated by healthy ecosystems and healthy ecosystems depend on biodiversity. And biodiversity is dependent on the habitat and food native plants provide for birds, insects, and other critters that populate the natural world.
We are currently undergoing a mass extinction of birds and insects partly due to loss of habitat. Scientists are calling this the sixth great extinction. These tiny creatures are the underpinning of our world. Without them, we humans can’t exist.
Dr. Tallamy, University of Delaware Professor and chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology, frequently lectures about biodiversity and how to create a thriving habitat on your property. His books are very popular, as are his sold out lectures.
