We are pleased to announce that two downtown Media Yardens proposals have been accepted. The first proposal is to add perennial herbs and shrubs to two existing planters on the Plum Street Mall, one at Baker Street and the other at Jasper Street. The second proposal is to utilize an existing container near the entrance to The Media Upper Providence Free Library, removing an existing small evergreen tree, and filling the container with decorative and edible plants.
We thank both Kathy Lundgren and Eve Miari for their creative efforts on these two exciting projects.
Here is how you can help! We need an energetic core of volunteers to assist us with planting and maintaining these two installations. Maintenance could include watering, weeding, cultivating, thinning, and plant replacement. If you are interested in getting your hands dirty and helping out with our first ever public Yardens installations, please contact Kathy Lundgren or Donna Cusano.
Update July, 2014
Donna Cusano, Kathy Lundgren, and Bob Lundgren convened at the Plum Street Mall on June 29th to come up with a design plan for the planters. Several native and heat tolerant shrubs and herbaceous plants were mentioned, especially American Holly and Red Osier Dogwood. Bob created a quick Photoshopped image (below) that will help those on Borough Council envision the plantings. Further planning, design, and a specific plant list to follow. We hope to begin initial installation in October.
