If you are thinking about buying an electric car, you might be interested in my experience. I wrote a blog about my new electric car in 2015. Here’s the update.
A significant development has been the increase in driving range from 80 miles (2015 Leaf) to 149 or 212 miles per charge (2024 Leaf), depending on the model you choose. Driver assist and safety technology has also been added.
I bought my Nissan Leaf 8 years ago and it’s still chugging along. It has been problem free and a joy to drive. My Leaf accelerates from 0 to 60 so fast people can’t believe it. The only maintenance has been a climate control filter change, new tires (because I kept running over nails in a parking lot) and the small battery (not the lithium battery) replacement this week.
Electric cars are very different under the hood than gas powered cars. My Leaf does not have an engine, so there are no spark plugs, drive belts, timing belts, chains, exhaust systems, or other items that require maintenance. And of course, no tailpipe to spew pollutants into the air.
I haven’t been to a gas station since I bought it, so I never have to think about the price of gas. I really love that! I have a charging station in my garage and solar panels on my roof, so it doesn’t cost me money to charge it.
But the best part about my car is I’m not contributing to climate change when I drive—and that’s exactly why I bought my Leaf.
