Our Annual Planning session in January was a big success! As usual, lots of ideas surfaced and lots of discussion ensued but a few ideas really grew legs. One of them was that we wanted to start having monthly events again and that they should, whenever possible, be potlucks. Nothing like food to bring people together! Food and community. Keep your 3rd Mondays open for these get-togethers!
So, Transition Town Media (TTM) will be hosting our first monthly Potluck Gathering, Hope in Action, on Monday, February 19, 6-9pm in our new venue on Lemon St between State and Baker St in Media, PA 19063 (look for the TTM signs). We haven’t come up with a name for this space yet, but we hope to make it a community space where neighbors of all affiliations can come together and engage in open, honest, positive communication about a variety of themes.
For this first event, Hope in Action, we invite you to come share your stories of what gives you hope, what stirs you to action, what alliances you have made or would like to make to create a better future for ourselves and our children. All are welcome to join in, bring a dish to share or contribute some cash if you can, but mostly bring your voice and your ideas! We’ll be inviting a few special guests to help catalyze the conversation, but we want all of you to jump in as well. Some of these special guests will be: Ellen Morfei, local mediator, community connector, and organizer of two Take Action Fairs, mobilizing volunteers to connect with like-minded non-profits; Kristin Seale, local mom who ran with 3 other Democrats for the RTMSD School Board and helped all 4 win election, and who is now running for a State Congressional seat; and Eve Miari, local businesswoman and mom, who is spearheading the Middletown Coalition for Community Safety to keep our area residents safe from potential leaks and spills from the Mariner East pipeline being constructed in our neighborhoods.
We also encourage you to help us make these potlucks waste-free. We’re starting a new tradition of BYOE events – please bring your own plates, cups, utensils, napkin for the meal, as well as a dish to share and your favorite beverage. Beer and wine are acceptable. The event is free, but we appreciate donations to help us cover the costs.
We look forward to seeing you! For more information, contact us as [email protected] or see our Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1700048743349178/.
