It’s Day Five of Happiness Week in Media! Transition Town Media invites you to join us and many other area organizations in celebrating the things that make us happy – art, music, nature, our health, our families, our community and its great spirit of fun!
Here’s what happening today. For a listing of the entire week’s activities, April 22-27, see the events list on our website or download our Happiness Week brochure.
Saturday, April 26th – Music, Scavenging, and Plants!
Start the day early with a 7:30 am Bird and Spring Ephemerals walk guided by the Friends of Glen Providence Park! Meet at the 3rd St and Kirk Lane entrance to the park.
Plum Street Mall and State Street are the place to be today! Starting at 10am in the Mall, Providence Friends Meeting invites you to share what makes you happy and what would make the world happy.
Join us for a Happiness Scavenger Hunt through the Media Business District from 11am-3 pm, organized by 7 Stones and Earth & State. Pick up your map and game card at Plum Street Mall, find your happiness in the participating businesses, and claim your prize back at the Mall – your choice of area discounts or select merchandise.
Then enjoy a great afternoon in Plum Street Mall from 1-4 pm, co-sponsored by the Media Upper Providence Library. You’ll be able to swap seeds, seedlings, and plants, learn about and purchase hand-made bee houses, participate in a videotaping of “Make it Fair”, a Fair Trade song, enjoy Fair Trade banana ice treats and a Fair Trade bakeoff, and “beam your dream” with Fred Shamlian! At 2pm, a concert featuring performances by Dante Bucci, Phyllis Chapell, Stephen Wise, Media Theatre members, and the Happiness Singers will begin. The Peace Pole, a large branch from an ancient tree at Pendle Hill, Wallingford, will be dedicated.
Today’s specials: Media businesses will have sidewalk sales along State Street. Deja Vu Salon will treat its customers to a mini-margarita. Our local libraries are sponsoring “Poem-in-your-Pocket” – recite a poem at select locations and get a special treat or discount.

Suggestions for the day? Do something for your community – buy pizza for the nurses at Riddle Village, do some farm work at Hillside or Red Hill Farm, pick up trash in the street whenever you see it, treat a juror to lunch, take a moment to appreciate what it means to live in a vibrant community like Media!
Stay tuned for Sunday’s events – last day of Happiness Week!
