Come Play in the Street!
The Media Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), Transition Town Greater Media, Media Providence Friends School, Friends of Glen Providence Park, Media Arts Council, the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia, and other great partners have teamed up to bring residents of Media and our neighboring towns a fun, family-friendly event—Media Open Streets!
In the Fall of 2018 and 2019, we closed down residential streets in Media so that we could come out and play in the streets with our friends and family! Anything non-motorized was allowed—bicycles, strollers, wheelchairs, skateboards, roller skates, or just your own two feet! Vendor and information tables, fun activities, and music lined the streets along the way, at Borough Hall (3rd & Jackson Sts), and at Glen Providence Park.
We all experienced the fun of strolling or biking the streets of Media without cars—healthy fun for the whole family! Check out this video to get an idea of what it looked like.
We had to discontinue Open Streets due to COVID in 2020. In 2022 and 2023, we partnered with Media Borough and the Media Arts Council on two Street Mural painting events, funded as part of a Traffic Calming initiative. In 2022, we created a beautiful mural of 4 Pennsylvania trout species on the pavement in the intersection at 3rd & Jackson St. The following year, we beautified the intersection at 3rd & Monroe with a whimsical painting of squirrels. Both events brought residents from all over town to paint sections of the mural or to watch as they took shape!
