Media Happiness Week, May 2-9, 2015

May 1, 2015 by Rhonda Fabian Leave a Comment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Happy is back!

The Media Happiness Week kicks off May 2nd in and around the Media Borough with a full range of activities aimed at helping Media residents notice and remember what really makes us happy.

The kick-off to Happiness Week, on Saturday May 2nd, will be a “Hometown Jubilee”.  A  collaboration between Transition Town Media (TTM) and the local Quaker community, the Jubilee will be a day of fun, food, family and fellowship. The festivities will begin at 9:00 with a “Happy Neighbors Walk” from Media Providence Friends School, 125 West Third Street, up the length of State Street to the Providence Friends Meeting at 105 N. Providence Road.  There, families and friends are invited to learn more about all our town has to offer, participate in outdoor fun, and enjoy a potluck buffet lunch.  There will be guided crafts and games for children, childcare for little ones, a meditation labyrinth, music, and merriment for all.

The rest of the week will be filled with a variety of events. TTM partners, the Friends of Glen Providence Park, will be leading a Spring Nature Walk through the park on Sunday, the 3rd.

Weekday events include a drum circle at the Seven Stones Gallery, a civic dialog on building a well and happy community (featuring a member of Media Borough Council), and a  community potluck dinner with musical guests at the Media Community Center.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Happiness Week without a Happy Dance Flash Mob! Join the dance party in Veterans Square around 6:15pm on Friday, May 8th when Springfield Healthplex Zumba instructor, Alex, will lead the crowd in another Happy Dance, to the music of The Edge with Stephen Wise.

The week will be capped on Saturday, May 9th with a Happy Street Fair in Plum Street Mall from 1-4pm. Among the attractions will be a seed/ plant swap and sale, Media Fair Trade Committee’s signature banana whip treats, information on reducing your energy use,  a children’s program and more.

In addition, be on the lookout for surprise outbursts of happiness throughout the week from our friends at Hedgerow Theatre!
