Greater Media Yardens!

February 11, 2014 by Sari Leave a Comment

Imagine what our town would be like if the streets of Media Borough were lined with fruit and nut bearing trees.  Imagine if every yard and porch were brimming with tomatoes, zucchinis, peppers, and squash.  Imagine neighbors gathering together to help one another sow seeds, grow compost, build garden beds, trade tips on organic pest control & water management, harvest vegetables, share meals, and learn how to cook, can, and preserve our food.   This is the vision of Transition Town Media’s Food Group, a vision based on the incredibly successful work of other communities across Europe and the United States that have transformed their towns into foodscapes, or edible landscapes.

Transition Town Media’s Food Group will be hosting a Foodscape Forum on Tuesday February 25th, 2014 from 7-9pm at the Media Community Center 301 N Jackson St, Media, PA.   This forum is an opportunity for members of the greater Media community to come together and contribute their ideas to the vision.   We will be watching several short videos to orient us to the work of other communities, and there will be ample time for discussion about what we would like to see take place here in Media as part of the “Greater Media Yardens” project.   Yardens are yard-gardens, and Yardening is the incredible process of creating food producing yard gardens as part of a collaborative community initiative.   Please join us!

Tea and light refreshments will be served.  Please feel free to bring fruit, cookies, or other snacks to share.  For more information, contact us as info@transitiontownmedia.org.
