Why Maintaining Optimum Health Is A Necessity

October 29, 2012 by Marion Leave a Comment

Want to be less dependent on the Mainstream Healthcare  System?  Who wouldn’t—given drug side  effects, hospital infection rates,  astronomical costs, and the less than stellar results  of medical treatment.  But let me give you another reason—the importance of maintaining optimum health in our new reality.

As we plan for the new normal, our health should be at the top of the list—right behind water and food.  In the future, health care will be less accessible and even more expensive than it is now.  Medication shortages are already occurring, as are new bacteria and viruses that are resistant to treatment.

Our country is in a less than desirable position to respond to the healthcare challenges we face in the future.  Our healthcare system is floundering under a mountain of insurance regulations, rising costs and a multitude of other problems.  At the same time we are facing not only the health care issues of an aging population, but also a tsunami of disease disaster from the current rate of obesity.  Think diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and cancer.  And the tragedy is that these mostly preventable chronic diseases are often caused by lifestyle.

Given those facts, it is in our best interest to do whatever we can to maintain and protect our health.  We all know that a healthy lifestyle starts with preventive measures such as nourishing food, the right exercise, stress reduction and adequate sleep.

For some health-promoting ideas you may not have considered, check out Yes Magazine’s Nine Simple Steps to Improve Your Health.  Try incorporating some of these ideas into your daily routine.   I’m betting your quality of life will improve.

If you are already living a healthy lifestyle and would like to plan for health resilience, read Chris Martenson’s comprehensive article, Health and First Aid.
