Solarize Greater Media Launch a Success!

October 30, 2015 by Sari Leave a Comment

TTM’s Energy Group held its first informational session on the new Solarize Greater Media campaign on Sat, October 24th at the Media Providence Friends School to a crowd of very engaged home-owners! If you weren’t able to attend, never fear – you’ll have more opportunities starting in January or you could look over the presentations and handouts we’ve posted (see below for the links).

What is Solarize Greater Media? It’s TTM’s newest initiative, aimed at making it easier, cheaper and less hassle for you to get solar panels installed on your home. TTM is partnering with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) and the Delaware County Planning Department (DCPD) to bring this award-winning “group buy” residential solar program to the Media area. Already rolled out in towns all over the country, the Solarize program is accelerating the growth of solar across the US.  We’re doing all the research to find the best installers with the best discounts and financing options. We’re also talking to banks to get the best deals on financing, working with local governments to streamline the permitting process – all the necessary steps in the process so you don’t have to!

To keep it local, we’ve picked towns within a 5-mile radius of the Media Courthouse. That would include: Aston, Brookhaven, Edgemont, Media, Middletown, Marple, Nether Providence, Newtown, Ridley, Rose Valley, Rutledge, Springfield, Swarthmore, and Upper Providence. Don’t live in one of those towns? If you’re not too much farther out, you may still be able to participate, but you would have to work that out with the installer. Part of the reason they can afford to give such great discounts is that the work is concentrated in a fairly small area.

We’re currently putting the finishing touches on an RFP we’ll send out to about 15 installers from which we’ll pick the best two. We expect to have them selected by the end of December at which time we’ll start signing people up in earnest. We’ll hold more information session like the one on Oct 24th in four of the selected towns from January through April (stay tuned for details). The program will run through April 2016, by which time you should have a signed contract with one of our installers; the actual installations will continue through the rest of the year.

If you’d like to get started by reading up on the subject, follow this link to get loads of information. Included here, so far, are 2 presentations given at the launch event (Solarize Kickoff DCPD by the County Planning Department and Solarize Launch TTM by Energy Group’s George Alexander), and 3 handouts (Info flyer which summarizes the Solarize campaign, Resource Handout which has useful links to various solar information sources, and Solar Myths, a listing of various myths about solar energy and responses to them). We’ll keep you posted on our progress!
