Looking Back: Wow, What a Year.

2012 was quite a year for Transition Town Media. We grew by leaps and bounds and were able to accomplish so much.  At a recent joint Steering Committee and Outreach Committee Meeting (you can be part of these committees if you are interested), we reviewed the years’ events and kindof amazed ourselves! On top of becoming a 501(c)3 in June (in record time, I might add), we were able to put on so many fun events, start meaningful initiatives, and help change lives of people in our community.

Let’s start with the events: We had monthly potlucks with food, economy, healthcare, reskilling, energy, community, and awareness raising themes. We had special lectures with such stellar individuals as David Brancaccio, Shannon Hayes, Edgar Cahn, and Charles Eisenstein. We hosted three separate training events for our members to deepen their relationship to the Transition movement and the ideas it serves. We had planning “pow-wows” focused on both collaborative consumption and our local economy. We held events to build community, support recycling, encourage gifting, learn new skills, support our farmers and our local food system, connect people to our local currency – The Timebank, and to flesh out new initiatives.  New initiatives started by Transition members this year include: a healthcare co-op, a vet co-op, a skillshare community group, the Great Media FreeMarket, The Transition Swap group on Facebook.

With several hundred members, and growing everyday, Transition Town Media is growing strong enough to effect real, positive change in our community. We could use your voice and your vision.

Our Strategic Planning meeting is next weekend.  If you’re interested in joining in the conversation about making the Media area resilient in the face of economic and environmental stresses, this is the best time to jump on board.  You can see what we accomplished last year.
