Deep Transition in Media PA

October 14, 2012 by Marie Leave a Comment

Media is a tremendous place to be involved in Transition, for a number of reasons. One of them is that we have so many resources surrounding our beautiful city, one of them being Pendle Hill.  This past weekend (October 11-14), several TTM members took part in a workshop on “Deep Transition” led by Lynette Marie Hanthorn and Michael Brownlee, a husband and wife team who were the catalysts for the first Transition initiative in the US out in Boulder, Colorado. They have come, over time, to see that simply knowing that changes are a’comin’ isn’t always enough to motivate activists and concerned folks into direct action. Rather, finding your place in the movement, your purpose…that will energize you to take your place among the change-makers and teachers, artists and poets, architects and dreamers and inventors…indeed among the rising tide of the human creativity that we need to buffer our community and walk into an uncertain future.

Deep Transition: Catalyzing the Emergence of Community Resilience and Self-Reliance

Pendle Hill’s description is this:  “Deep Transition addresses those who know that “Peak Everything” is already upon us, who have a fierce and determined optimism, and who feel called to action. It is for those who sense the urgent need to reclaim our power locally, to rebuild our capacity to meet essential needs locally, and to heal and regenerate community locally. Deep Transition offers a rigorous schedule of presentations, group processes, documentary films, individual reflection time, guest speakers, and experiential exercises that will empower participants to serve as more effective “evolutionary catalysts” in a time of planetary transition. The approach is intense, demanding, and balanced: left-brain/right-brain, feminine/masculine, inner/outer, personal/group.”

Those who took part in it were moved by the honesty and intensity of the weekend, and deepened our resolve to do our work in the world, alone and with each other, and one brick at a time, build the better world “our hearts tell us is possible.” When Michael and Lynette Marie come back, which they will, try to make space in your life for this. You won’t be sorry.
